A Probabilistic Approach to Skin Detection

In this paper, we present an approach to skin detection in images, which labels each pixel as skin or nonskin based on a simple probabilistic model acquired from a database of manually labeled images. We tested several variations of this approach (using different color spaces and pre-processing techniques) and the achieved accuracy seemed quite encouraging with, a detection rate of 77,79%.
